Keeping up with the Joneses

‘Let’s buy a house’ she said.

‘Why?’ he asked.

‘I’m fed up of living in a unit. All our friends have huge mansions.’

‘But we can’t afford a house….just yet.’

‘So you want us to be the laughing stock of our group?’

The classic response that has led so many people into financial debt, fractured relationships and mounting misery.

Just because your friends can afford some things which you cannot doesn’t mean you’re a failure. And if they mock you because you haven’t caught up with them in the ‘rat race’…honestly….do you even want to associate with this section of the society?

Dream big…but until you build those dreams, live within your means.

If you’re worried about being ostracised from some groups because you couldn’t afford to buy a Louis Vuitton handbag for yourself, let me assure you that solitude is not as scary as it seems.

Better solitude than being amongst those who compel you to constantly be someone you’re not.
