Kids sometimes, unwittingly, say the funniest things. Although born and raised in Australia, my kids are very familiar with Bollywood music, movies and most things related to India. While unable to speak fluent Marathi, they nonetheless understand every word.
My littlest one was chatting with me yesterday about a movie she recently saw with her cousins (“Planes”). She could barely contain her bubbling excitement that there was an Indian plane Ishani, with a voice over done by none other than one of her favourites, Priyanka Chopra. The conversation between her and myself went a bit like this:
“Hey Mum, you know the movie Planes? It was so exciting”
“Oh great. Glad you enjoyed it”
“And guess what? There was an indian plane and it was called Ishani and it had Priyanka Chopra’s voice”
“Fantastic”
“And in one scene, all these planes rushed to India and………”
Now, here comes the bit that had me giggling. Kids say the funniest things. “Oh Mum, there was this..this…Mum, what’s that white indian thing called?” my daughter asked.
I was perplexed. “What white indian thing?”
“You know, that white indian thing. It’s on our coasters?”
“You mean the Taj Mahal?”
“Yes, yes…exactly…….”
Now, I have heard the Taj Mahal described in many countless wonderful ways….as one of the seven wonders of the world, as an amazing architectural feat, as a triumph of artistic endeavour etc etc. I must say, it was the first time I heard it described in such an unusual manner: that white indian thing we have on our coasters.
