Even when everything is fine, have you ever felt a moment of sudden and infinite sadness?
Felt a bit teary-eyed but couldn’t figure out why?
We have all experienced it at some point in our lives. And we’ve wondered why….
I have always believed that in those moments, the soul recognises the transience and fleeting nature of human existence. We realise how finite time is….how fragile the human race really is….And that momentary recognition of human frailty is what causes those moments of sudden sadness.
We realise that nothing lasts forever…
We realise that someday everything will be lost and we wonder why we even bother to do the things we do. Why the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Why the arguments and the struggles? How does it matter if nothing is forever?
It matters because we are all part of a long cosmic chain.
Our time on this planet may be finite, but we owe it to ourselves and future generations to live up to our fullest potential.
Just like the athletes in a relay race depend on the previous runner to pass them the baton so that they can run their bit of the race, we owe it to the next generation to run our race well. We must do our bit before we hand over the baton. Because if WE falter and drift, how can THEY continue the legacy?
On days when you wonder about the meaninglessness of human life, stop for a moment and visualise yourself being a valuable link in a long, age-old, universal and cosmic chain. Your life matters. And you must live it well.
The human life is the highest form of evolution and a gift. Let it never be forgotten that we are the lucky ones for we were given this gift.
